How to save water?

In the Kitchenkraanikauss

  • When washing dishes by hand, do not leave the water running at the same time. If you have a 2-sided sink, fill one side with washing water and the other side with rinsing water.
  • To drink cold tap water, keep vessel filled with water in the fridge, instead of letting the water run until it is cold enough.
  • Wash fruits and vegetables in the washing bowl. That way you can use the rinsing water later for watering the plants.

In the Household

  • Use the washing machine and dish washer only when they are fully filled up.
  • Check for any leakages on a regular basis and have them fixed at the first opportunity. The best way for doing this is to monitor your water bills and water meters, which are the first to indicate any increased consumption.
  • After using the taps, close them carefully and evenly, to avoid any unnecessary waste of water.

In the Bath and Toilet

  • Instead of taking bath, prefer shower. You spend 3 times more water in the bath than in shower.
  • By shortening your time spent under shower by one or two minutes, you may save up to 12 litres of water a day!
  • Close the tap while washing your teeth or head, shaving yourself or soaping your hands. That way you may save up to 40 litres of water a day.

In the Gardenkasta

  • You can avoid evaporating if you water the plants early in the morning or late at night when the temperatur is lower.
  • If possible, collect rain water to use it for watering.
  • Water the roots, not the leaves. Water will evaporate quicker when you water the leaves.
  • If possible, prefer watering can rather than using automatic irrigation system (sprinkler).
  • In order to avoid pressure problems, do not water the plants during peak hours of water consumption (between 18.00 and 22.00).
