The main problems that apartment associations face and how to prevent them

We modernise the water infrastructure that we operate, and we regularly maintain our pipes to prevent water incidents and ensure a high level of water service. Apartment associations should also pay attention to maintaining the pipes on their property to prevent unexpected water outages and fluctuations in water quality.

What are the issues that we get contacted for most often?

Most of the enquiries we receive are related to water quality, water pressure or slow-running drains. If you are experiencing problems with water turbidity or pressure, you should first check your water metering unit. Firstly, make sure that the filters are clean and that the sediment trap is not blocked. Also, establish whether the problem affects the entire building or just one apartment.

If the latter is is the case, the problem is presumably within the property and can be resolved without our intervention.

If you haven't turned the tap on for a while

If you have not used the water in your home for a long time or if your consumption has significantly dropped, remember to flush the pipes. Water that has been sitting in the pipes for a long time can create favourable conditions for bacterial growth. Therefore, you should open taps that have not been used for a while and let the water run.

Also, drain and, if necessary, clean hot water boilers that have been out of use for a long time.

Problems with sewers

Slow-running wastewater drains in apartment buildings are often related to problems with the property's sewer pipes. To prevent blockages, we recommend high-pressure jet washing every 3–5 years.

Problems with the sewers can also be seen in rooms that are below ground level. The most common mistake is installing a non-return valve on the drain that receives water from the entire building. This will prevent water flowing in from the local main in the event of a blockage. However, water from the upper floors will still flood, causing inconvenience.

Raising awareness among residents of what can and cannot be flushed down the toilet can also help to avoid problems. Most sewer blockages are caused by things that don't belong in there, such as insoluble paper towels, sanitary napkins, cotton buds, etc. Fatty foods also cause problems. While this may not cause an immediate blockage, it will gradually accumulate and build up on the pipe bends and walls over time, eventually forming an impenetrable clog.

If residents are careful, the pipes will also stay in good condition. However, if you have a problem you can't fix yourself, we take emergency calls 24 hours a day on 626 2400.
